Jornadas Técnicas
“Valorização e recuperação de caminhos antigos”
No âmbito da 9ª edição do Festival de Caminhadas do Ameixial promovem-se as Jornadas Técnicas sobre “Valorização e Recuperação de Caminhos Antigos”. Aqui pretende-se reflectir sobre a recuperação de caminhos antigos, sobre as questões ligadas à preservação de um valor patrimonial com milhares de anos, sobre serem obras artesanais testemunhos de técnicas quase em extinção, sobre a problemática de serem caminhos públicos aspecto muitas vezes questionado, sobre o seu potencial para a prática de caminhadas, actividades pedagógicas e observação da natureza, sobre as problemáticas de como realizar a sua inventariação, sobre o seu estado de conservação, entre muitos outros aspectos.
Quer-se debater como este valioso recurso que pode ser aproveitado para impulsionar numerosas actividades, sejam elas turísticas, educativas, lazer e bem-estar, e contribuir para uma futura estratégia da enorme rede de caminhos que estão preservados no Algarve.
Nesta conversa vão estar presentes investigadores e técnicos do Instituto catalão de Desenvolvimento e Promoção do Alto Pirenéus (IDAPA) que tem um trabalhado naquela região espanhola, do Centro Interdisciplinar de História, Culturas e Sociedades da Universidade de Évora (CIDEHUS) que investigaram a documentação histórica do Arquivo Municipal de Loulé, e da experiência obtida pelo Gabinete Técnico de Apoio às Aldeias do Algarve (GTAA).

Rede Europeia de Festivais de Turismo Responsável
Está actualmente em construção uma rede colaborativa que junta várias organizações responsáveis por festivais de turismo em vários países. Estas iniciativas têm em comum um forte sentido de responsabilidade ambiental, social, cultural e territorial, e decidiram juntar-se para promover e partilhar as suas experiências. No dia 22 de Abril, pelas 15h00, vamos juntar essas organizações e apresentar pela primeira vez o projecto piloto da “Rede Europeia de festivais de Turismo Responsável”. Contamos com a participação do Festival “ITACA” (Itália), “ATES” (França), “Relais des Voyageurs” (Bélgica) e, claro, o de WFA (Portugal). Será uma conversa aberta a todos interessados, onde serão apresentados os vários festivais, os temas mobilizadores de cada um e as respectivas atividades. Conversa via plataforma zoom. Walking paths
Walks on signposted pedestrian routes in Ameixial, with the company of a guide
1.Revezes (15km | 4h | medium) [days 29 and 30]
Revezes mount is located next to Vascãozinho river, an affluent from Vascão river, where the course will go on for some kilometers. This is another WFA classic! The trail is marked and provides a close contact with the river and its natural and patrimonial values: Cascalheira´s water mill, several uninhabited little villages, such as Vale da Moita and the beautiful landscape of Vascão valley.

2.Azinhal dos Mouros (17km | 5h | dificuldade média) [dia 29 e 30]
One of the classics hikes of this festival. It´s a marked trail, which undergoes by several points of natural and cultural interest, where stands out the beautiful town of Azinhal dos Mouros, the Chavaxã Mill or the Vermelhos Mount. You will walk in rural paths, little rails and you must also prepare yourself to cross several times the Vascão riverside. It's truly one of the most beautiful trails of this area, but also one of the longest, with some ascendings in the middle!

3.Corte de Ouro (13 km | 4h | dificuldade média) [(ESGOTADO) ]
The name of this village is (supposedly) associated with an old rural practice: coloring the landscape with gold! But metaphorically speaking! They cultivated wheat and /or barley in this area. Today, few fields are cultivated with these cereals, but the beauty of this area is still the same! The hike begins in Corte de Ouro village, goes south, through forest paths with lots of cork oaks and rock rose fields, passing through water courses and heritage elements of interest such as: Beringel dolmen, Pé Corso Fountain and Eira da Palha Landmark. On the way back to the North, you will pass by Azenha dos Pizões ruins, another point of interest. At the end in Corte de Ouro village you can admire one circular haystack with a barley conic roof. Maybe the last one in the Algarve region.

4.Ameixial (5km | 2h | easy) [days 29 and 30]
The route begins in the village of Ameixial, next to a small rest park existing next to the "Casa de Pasto Ameixialense". It crosses the main core of this village, passing by an old wood oven, located in "Rua da Laje" and runs through the "Azinhaga do Ribeiro" towards the football field. This trail crosses a forested area of eucalyptus, descends to a water line, crosses it and climbs until it reaches a wider path that connects to the municipal road in the 504th access to the Corte de Ouro. In that crossing, it turns right and returns to Ameixial.

Special Walks
Walks that don't always happen but should!
5. From Alte to Ameixial (40km | 8h | very hard) [dat 29]
New route, special and indicated for the adventurous. It is a long walk that links the Barrocal to the Serra and two of its most important villages: Alte and Ameixial. It crosses dry farms, stony fields, stone walls, cistus, cork oaks, streams and hills, many hills! A journey through a previously unexplored part of the Caldeirão mountain range, but one that participants will certainly enjoy. And the guide, well known, will do everything for that!

6.Trail Running com ATR - Rota do Vascão (15km e 30km | 4h | dificuldade difícil) [dia 30]
We will explore the fantastic trails that the Ameixial MTB Club is discovering to celebrate its most emblematic annual event: The Vascão Route! It's about 30km, through single tracks, crossing the mountains between Ameixial and Cavalos and following along the Vascão from Fornalha to Ameixial. For trail running lovers and those who enjoy discovering new paths!

7.Ameixial – Malhão (27km | 6h | dificuldade alta) (ESGOTADO)
An emblematic and well-known place in the Algarve Bike Tour and for the Buddhist temple that exists there, this will be a walk from Ameixial to one of the highest points in the Algarve mountains (501m) along old paths, crossing streams and discovering new places.

8.Radical no Vascão (9km | 4h | dificuldade muito difícil) (ESGOTADO)
A radical journey that will give you an adrenaline rush and lots of fun through the crystal clear waters of the Vascão River. This line of water is found in a valley surrounded by natural landscapes and human presence, one of which is one of the archaeological sites where for more than 2500 years people lived connected to the Southwest script. The walk includes crossings in the river, with water up to your waist, so you will need to be prepared for these aquatic passages!

9.De Ameixial a Lourencinho (13km | 4h | dificuldade média) [dias 29 e 30]
This is one of the most beautiful walks in this territory. A route that follows old forest paths and narrow trails inserted in beautiful cork and holm oak forests, along streams, including the Vascão river. The itinerary starts in Ameixial and ends in Lourencinho (or vice versa), the village located in the far north of the municipality of Loulé, formerly belonging to Alcoutim. An easy walk, in the middle of nature, passing by an old water mill and small isolated hills.

10.Conhecer Lourencinho (10km | 3h | dificuldade média) (ESGOTADO)
Monte do Lourencinho is located in the extreme Northeast of Loulé´s council, sharing borders with Alcoutim and Mértola. It is the most distant village from council headquarters, having in the past a closer relationship with Alcoutim council than with Loulé. It´s a very beautiful place, next to the Vascão riverside valley. The river meandering through green hills and valleys, with lots of ash trees, willows and oleanders. On that spot Marco Brás, who has borned in Lourencinho, will lead us on a little bit demanding hike that will last around three hours. A hike at the end of the parish, to reveal a mountain landscape that mixes the typical cork oak, with holm oak and a glimpse of the Alentejo plain.

11.O Som das Aves (4km | 3h | dificuldade fácil) (ESGOTADO)
This route is centered around the village of Ameixial. A walk in the company of an experienced ornithologist to listen to the sounds of nature, where birds dominate. We will learn to distinguish starlings, swallows, tits or the beautiful golden oriole. The bird fauna richness of the region is high and the symphonic orchestra produced by these beings is fascinating!

12.Segredos Botânicos de Ameixial (4km | 3h | dificuldade fácil) [dia 30]
Vamos caminhar com um entusiasta pela botânica e conservação da natureza, que nos irá falar das plantas da região e daquelas mais especiais do ponto de vista conservacionista, medicinal e até alimentar. Orquídeas, estevas, tomilhos, rosmaninhos, entre muitas outras, estarão presentes neste percurso, pequeno, de reduzida dificuldade e muito informativo! Mas atenção, os interessados devem estar preparados para caminhar fora de trilhos, atravessar a ribeira e furar algum matagal na busca de plantas diferentes e interessantes! É isso que implica participar numa saída com um explorador da flora selvagem!

13.Algarvensis Geopark - Walk from Rock to Bread (4.5km | 2h30 | easy) [day 29]
In this route, we intend to show the role of local geology in the production of bread, telling the story from the formation of rocks, to their use by communities and the final product.

14.Geopark Algarvensis - When the sea was in Ameixial (4km | 2h | easy ) [day 30]
In this route, we intend to tell in a simple and accessible way the geological history of the Serra Algarvia through the rocks, plants and landscapes, as well as the way in which the rocks influenced and were used by communities over time.

15.Caminhar com um pastor (ESGOTADO)
Leonel is a native from Vermelhos Mount in Ameixial. He is a shepherd, he knows the mountain as few and can only guide himself with the references that he established during the thousands of hours spent in the field with his goats, sheep and dogs! He knows the wild plants, the sound of birds, knows where the fox's den is, and recognizes the trail of wild boars. He even knows where a water source with good water is and where to shelter in case of a storm.
He volunteered to guide two walks, through the hills and to show how special is a shepherd's life.

16.Caminhada Noturna (4km | 2h | dificuldade fácil) [dia 28]
After a good dinner, what is better than a night walk?! In this walk you will go through some rural paths unknown for most people that give access to several points of interest, such as: a dam, a water course, and a viewpoint. A simple and quick route to visit Ameixial under a stellar sky!

17.Arqueologia - Escrita do Sudoeste (7km | 4h | dificuldade média) [dias 29 (ESGOTADO) e 30]
This is one of the most traditional hikes in the festival. Crossing the deepest valleys and agriculture fields along the Vascanito and Vascãozinho streams, we will learn about Algarve Iron Age History and the oldest form of writting in Iberian Peninsula - the Southwest Script. We will visit three archaeological sites where stelae were found. The hike will give us the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of the place and also look at some ethnographic heritage which was so important to this landscape.

18. Archaeology Prehistory Walk (8km | 4-5h | medium) [days 29 and 30]
In this hike around Corte de Ouro plateau, we will visit two examples of the Algarve Megalithism that are very well known in Ameixial parish. The Alagar and Beringel dolmens are archaeological sites with almost 5,000 years old. These dolmens reveal stories of those who lived over there. On our way we will also get to know the breathtaking views between the peaks of Serra do Caldeirão and the Baixo Alentejo plains. We will see as well the natural beauty of this mountain with nested valleys and its haystacks - an iconic ethnographic heritage from Serra do Caldeirão.

19. De Azinhal a Tavilhão (20km | 5h | dificuldade média) (ESGOTADO)
An experience for "pure and hard" walking enthusiasts! A route of about 20 km, starting and ending in Azinhal dos Mouros, passing through the village of Tavilhão and Vascão river. The main motivation is walking, whether on paths and tracks, through valleys or hills. Be prepared, the guides for this walk are not gentle! They really like walking! And a lot of it! 20. À volta do Vascão (15km | 4h | dificuldade média) (ESGOTADO)
On this new walk, we will walk through the river valley of Vascão, always with the same river in sight. We start the trail in Azinhal dos Mouros, descend next to the river and, on almost non-existent trails and rural paths, follow the watercourse until Tavilhão, where we cross it Back in the Alentejo, we return to the starting point, now with a different perspective of Vascão. A walk through little known tracks and paths, passing through small vegetable gardens and scrubland areas, with the opportunity to go bathing, as we will pass near real natural swimming pools! A very beautiful route, with a rich presence of fauna and flora!

21.Illustration Walk with the Urban Sketchers (6km | 4h | easy difficulty) [day 29]
In this activity we will be joined by a group of illustrators from the Urban Sketchers collective and will take a tour around Ameixial to illustrate the territory's heritage elements, whether cultural, natural or even human. Sharing knowledge, tips and suggestions around illustration will be part of this experience that is expected to be productive! The illustrations selected by the participants themselves will then be presented at an exhibition to be held in Loulé!

An easy and informative walk through the village of Ameixial and its surroundings, in the company of an Ameixial inhabitant, to observe its natural and built heritage, where relevant aspects that give identity to this parish will be discussed.

Walking with poles is not as simple as it seems and can have several benefits in terms of walking performance as well as in the physical development of the practitioner. In this activity we’ll learn how to use hiking poles correctly on a route around Ameixial where we test the skill, stamina and performance of the participants.

Venha descobrir os caminhos rurais de Ameixial através de duas aplicações de aventura para telemóvel. Na companhia de um especialista em ferramentas digitais de caminhada, iremos explorar a região e suas características geográficas, sem um percurso pre-definido, usando as aplicações Mapy.cz e Outdooractive (ambas gratuitas) através das quais iremos desenhar e percorrer um itinerário não sinalizado em torno de Ameixial. Iremos planeando e ajustando a caminhada à medida que a fazemos, com recurso às referidas aplicações de forma a aprender na prática como as usar e fazer bom proveito das mesmas.
NOTA: os participantes devem descarregar ambas as aplicações para o telemóvel e descarregar a versão offline do mapa de Portugal.

25.Talk and Special Walk with… Luís Palma (6km | 2h | very easy ) [day 28]
About his book "Ameixial-Loulé - Monografia breve de uma freguesia na Serra do Caldeirão", published in 2020, which aims to characterise the history, geography, heritage, customs and traditions of this parish in the extreme north of the municipality of Loulé. This will be followed by a short walk through the village.

26.Macro Walk (Photography) (4km | 3h | easy) [day 29 and 30]
Through macro photography it is possible to discover morphological details of the fauna and flora that go completely unnoticed. Colours, shapes, movements, among other aspects. And contrary to what many people think, with a simple mobile phone it is possible to make good macro photos. On this walk we will explore the macroscopic animal and plant life of Ameixial, in the company of an expert who will explain how to take these photos and identify the species observed! Get ready to discover a hidden world!

Numa divertida saída de campo, os participantes poderão compreender a relação dos seres vivos com a água e a forma como as propriedades físicas e químicas desta podem influenciar a presença ou ausência de organismos, sendo este um primeiro passo para perceber a interminável rede de dependência entre organismos e o meio onde estes habitam. Esta atividade resulta da parceria com a APA/ARH.

Nesta actividade, vamos acompanhar uma saída de campo de observação e identificação da fauna invertebrada que ocorre na ribeira do Vascão. Mas, ao invés de apenas os observar, vamos desenhá-los sob a orientação de uma experiente ilustradora que nos ensinará os truques e detalhes sobre como desenhar os seres vivos da ribeira de forma a pode-los mais tarde identificar e estudar! 35. Peddy-paper: Explorar a Água à nossa volta (3km | 2h | dificuldade fácil) [dia 29]
O objetivo do Peddy-paper “Explorar a água à nossa volta” é procurar sensibilizar para a temática da água enquanto elemento indispensável à vida do ser humano, dos animais e das plantas através de perguntas, desafios e enigmas que vão testar o conhecimento das crianças sobre as características e estados da água, o ciclo da água, a água na natureza e muitos outros temas.
No fim será dada a oportunidade de as crianças refletirem sobre os principais temas com que contataram durante a atividade, introduzindo-se na conversa exemplos de boas práticas para poupar, reduzir o consumo e reaproveitar e os desafios no acesso a água potável – Uso eficiente da água.

"Laboratório de paleontologia” e “Jogo de estratigrafia” - Geoparque Algarvensis [dia 29]
The “Paleontology laboratory” consists of a small simulation of the laboratory work of a paleontologist. The objective is to excavate a pretend sediment block (made with plaster and sand) with the tools provided to find the bone inside and extract it without breaking it. This activity consists of a small game in which the objective is to arrange different pieces that represent different geological layers with fossils of different ages, based on the principles of stratigraphy.

Join the Expedition H2O and discover the value of water and its importance in our lives through various games!
Glory Game “H2O Expedition”
It will be played on a tarp measuring 3x3 meters. The game addresses different themes related to water, such as the water cycle and water efficiency, among others.
"The water we don't see" calculator
The activity presents the concept of virtual water and its contribution to the water footprint. The main objective is for children to understand the amount of water that exists even where we cannot see it.
“What I already do”
Participants are invited to write a message about the habits they already practice to save and preserve water.

This session on the lawn of Fonte de Seiceira will include breathing techniques (pranayama), postures (asanas), relaxation techniques and meditation. Everyone feel welcome!

Enhancement of pedestrian routes in Ameixial: “Construction and installation of mud benches on local routes [day 29 and 30]
In this activity, we will intervene in the existing round pedestrian walks in Ameixial with the aim of qualifying them and making them more appealing. The action consists of the construction and installation of two earth benches (made with “Taipa” technique) on two of the aforementioned routes (Azinhal dos Mouros and Ameixial). W1. Via Algarviana: new routes and tools to discover a different Algarve [day 29 | 15:30-17:00]
The Long Distance Path GR13 - Via Algarviana crosses the interior of the Algarve from Alcoutim to Cape St. Vincent (300 km). To get the most out of this journey through the hills and the Algarvian "barrocal" region, it is important to plan and get to know a little about the territory we are going to cross. What can you find on the official GR13 website, in the guidebook and in the application? We will talk about these tools and also show you the new Via Algarviana routes.

W2. Being Sustainable: what? It is like? An action within the scope of the “Plantar Água” project [day 29 | 15:30-17:00]
The "Plant Water - Sow the Future" project aims to contribute to the ecological restoration of the degraded areas of the Serra do Caldeirão and to increase the resilience of these territories and their communities.
One of the lines of work is to diversify income sources and create "green" jobs to improve local economic resilience. In this talk we will present this initiative and challenge the participants, with a special focus on women, to become "Sustainable Entrepreneurs".
